The College library’s primary role on campus is to support the academic programs of the institution. Toward that end, the materials (books, journals, databases, videos/DVDs) that the library acquires reflect past and current curriculum offerings of the College and provide access to basic texts throughout the liberal arts. In addition to curriculum support, the library maintains a small leisure reading collection as well as a juvenile/young adult collection.

The library consists of two levels, holding a book collection of approximately seventy-four thousand volumes and sixty-four thousand individual titles. The library subscribes to approximately 130 print periodicals and provides access to more than fifty individual databases, including databases of full-text journals, magazines, and newspapers (more than thirty thousand individual titles); streaming video (more than eight thousand full-length videos); language learning software; maps; data; and abstracting and indexing databases. Internet and database access is available in the library at the library’s computer lab and on public workstations. Accessing the databases from off campus only requires that students know their network login and password.

Patrons can access the library’s catalog and its electronic resources 24/7. You can learn the status of a book, check to see what you have out and when it’s due, renew your own materials, and place electronic holds on items that are currently checked out.

Books and journal articles not available at the library can be borrowed from other libraries through our interlibrary loan (ILL) service. Turnaround time for article requests is often now just a matter of a day or two if the sought-after article is available electronically from the lending library.

The library has a variety of study rooms, collaborative work areas, and individual spaces in which students can work. Two seminar rooms and a classroom are used for regularly-scheduled classes but can also be reserved by students and student groups when not otherwise occupied.
