FACILITIES REPAIR WORKER (11 Positions)
This position assists full-time staff at Peninsula with grounds and facilities management. The position also maintains and operates equipment, performs repairs to facilities, and cleans facilities. Operate equipment. Mow and trim grass at campgrounds, day use areas and trails. Paint buildings and picnic tables. Pick up litter, clean public use areas, haul garbage, and maintain fire rings and grills. Minor road repair. Remove brush and cut down hazard trees. Maintain restrooms, shower facilities, and other park buildings. Perform minor facility repairs including but not limited to plumbing, doors, windows, walls, and concrete. Repair small motors, maintain mowing equipment, chainsaws, and other maintenance tools and equipment.
VISITOR SERVICES ASSOCIATE (10 Positions)
This position is responsible for greeting park visitors, selling vehicle admission stickers, registering campers, fielding questions about the property and recreation opportunities, along with a variety of other administrative and financial duties. Greet visitors, collect and account for fees and disseminate information. Work at entrance stations or other visitor contact stations. Use electronic credit card verification equipment and computerized reservation and reporting systems. Provide answers to visitors questions concerning the specific park area, as well as explain the area’s recreational opportunities, interpretive services, concessions and campground availability. Issue admission receipts in accordance with established guidelines. Distribute brochures, maps and provide directions/routes of travel throughout the park; inform visitors of potential safety hazards. Perform light cleaning duties. Wear required uniform and be a positive representative of the Department.
PARKS AND RECREATION SPECIALIST
This position is responsible for a combination of outdoor maintenance and groundskeeping work in addition to providing customer service for property visitors and campers at the entrance station. Parks and recreation specialists often operate machinery such as UTV’s, ATV’s, chainsaws, snowmobiles, hand tools, power tools, mowers, tractors and other motorized vehicles. Direct other team members and assist in the collection of fees and dissemination of information. Work at entrance stations, campgrounds or other visitor contact stations. Use electronic cash registers, electronic credit card verification equipment and computerized reservation and reporting systems. Register campers; sell admission stickers to public. Provide answers to visitor questions concerning the specific park area, as well as explain the area’s recreational opportunities, interpretive services, concessions and campground availability. Manage the administration of admission sticker sales and other fee charges to efficiently maximize revenues. Maintenance of grounds and facilities to ensure they conform to established standards to include mow grass, pick up litter, clean public use areas and beaches, painting, maintaining restrooms and campsites, remove trees and brush, repair and maintain trail surfaces, operate vehicles and light equipment and perform repairs and maintenance to equipment and buildings. Explain State Park rules, regulations and fees to visitors and help with special events. Manage the park and its facilities to protect public health and safety. Assist the park manager and/or property superintendent with monitoring the work and performance of other team members or volunteers and any other duties as assigned.

Remove brush and cut down hazard trees. Trail and signage maintenance and repairs. Repair and Maintain equipment: Repair small motors, maintain mowing equipment, chainsaws, and other maintenance tools and equipment. Maintain restrooms, shower facilities, and other park buildings. Paint buildings and picnic tables. Pick up litter, clean public use areas, haul garbage, and maintain fire rings and grills. Minor road repair. Perform minor facility repairs.
- Knowledge, skills and experience of general maintenance duties such as janitorial, grounds work, and painting.
- Equipment repair and maintenance experience.
- Experience using hand and power tools including chainsaws.
- Possess or ability to obtain DNR chainsaw safety certification and 1st Aid/CPR certification.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and public.
- Training or experience in vehicle operations including UTVs, 4-wheel drive trucks, heavy equipment, trailers, dump trucks.
- Heavy lifting is required.
- Ability to work independently and as a team, be self-motivated and punctual.
- Must be at least 18 years old to operate vehicles and some equipment.
- Excellent customer service skill required.
- Ability to handle money with accuracy
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Effective written communication skills
- Computer experience with Windows, Microsoft Office and Outlook is required
