This internship will be located at the Ashland Museum in downtown Ashland, Wisconsin, and is sponsored by the Ashland Historical Society/Museum (AHSM). AHSM is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history and traditions of the Ashland region. Our mission statement is: The Ashland Historical Society, a non-profit volunteer organization, promotes the appreciation of local history and pride of community through a visual connection to the past by collecting and preserving memorabilia and artifacts, stories and traditions and by functioning as an educational resource. The AHSM is managed by a board of directors and led by President Tory Stroshane. The museum is operated by a museum manager, Richard J. Pufall, and numerous other volunteers, all of whom provide a variety of services to the museum.

The museum is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, and while most of the available work hours are during this time, we are open to other options as far as work hours are concerned.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Qualifications: Interest in history, computer skills, organizational skills, time management. High school diploma.

Responsibilities: The internship will focus on three areas:

  1. Entry of historical data into our software programs.
  2. Working the front desk: greeting visitors and conducting transactions from our gift shop.
  3. Creating, or helping to create an exhibit or two.
