This position will provide students with rich, hands-on experience assisting with the fundamental responsibilities of a non-profit economic development agency. The program will design a database to organize information regarding the needs of local business owners, and analyze data to identify areas of opportunity. It will include outreach to Ashland County businesses, inventory of business sectors, and design a survey to be utilized in data collection. Interns will also receive an introduction to business incubator management, grant research and writing, and non-profit management. The program will also provide students the opportunity for face-to-face interactions with non-profit managers, business managers and owners, and local government leaders, while observing and learning the process of providing business and community support services.
Responsibilities of the position include:
- designing business surveys,
- phone and face-to-face outreach and interaction with business managers and owners
- data collection, database creation, data entry and assessment of data collected
Other responsibilities include:
- grant research
- grant writing
- office duties such as copying, scanning, and filing
Qualified applicants will have outstanding interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, data analysis experience, database and spreadsheet experience, initiative and integrity, and meticulous attention to detail. Experience in social research is preferred.
