Housing

Living on campus lets you connect with the Northland community and creates a sense of place, stability, and stewardship. About eighty percent of the Northland student body lives on campus. Each residence hall has trained student staff: one administrative resident advisor (ARA) and a team of resident advisors (RAs) who live in the halls and work to organize programming, serve as resources, and provide guidance to residents. Dining

We collaborate with Chartwells Higher Ed to create a sustainable dining experience for you. With a commitment to real foods, Chartwells purchases meat, produce, and dry goods from our regional farmers, businesses, and the campus garden crew. The College has signed the Real Food Challenge and adopted the Real Food Standards—valuing humane treatment of animals, organic, fair labor standards, and local as a metric for evaluating the food we purchase.

*Group living double spaces include the ELLC apartments and the Townhouses.
**Single rooms are available only in Memorial Hall and Mead Hall. Spaces are limited.

On-campus Students

Full Plan—$6,688 per Academic Year

Unlimited access (all you can eat) in the Baldwin Commons dining facility during open hours

1 daily to-go meal exchange from the Campus Store

All students living on campus at Northland College are required to have the Full Plan, which allows unlimited access to meals in the Baldwin Commons dining facility during open hours. Baldwin Commons serves three meals each weekday when classes are in session, and brunch and dinner are served on weekends.

Students living in the one of the Townhouse Apartments or one of the four full apartments in the McLean Environmental Living and Learning Center are required to have a meal plan, but they may select the Alternate Plan (330 meals) or Commuter Plan (130 meals).

Continuing students that live on campus that began at Northland in January of 2023 or earlier are able to select the same meal plan options that were available to them when they began. For more information, please visit: Meal Plan Options – 2022-2023 and Prior.

Off-campus/Commuter Students

Alternate Plan—$5,748 per Academic Year

330 meals (all you can eat) in the Baldwin Commons dining facility during open hours (165 meals in Fall Term, 165 meals in Winter/May Terms)
$75 in Flex Dollars per semester
2 guest passes per semester
50 meal exchanges (to-go meals) per semester from the Campus Store (Meal exchanges in the Campus Store are in place of meals in Baldwin Commons. You can use up to 50 meals of your 165 per semester in the Campus Store. Additional details and limitations may apply—see the Campus Store for more information.)

Commuter Plan—$2,613 per Academic Year

130 meals (all you can eat) in the Baldwin Commons dining facility during open hours (65 meals in Fall Term, 65 meals in Winter/May Terms)
$150 in Flex Dollars per semester

Students living off campus are not required to have a meal plan, but many still choose to purchase one so they can grab a meal and eat with friends between classes. To request or inquire about a meal plan, please email res-life@northland.edu.

Meals included with the Alternate Plan and the Commuter Plan may only be used for the student with the meal plan. If a guest wishes to join you for a meal in Baldwin Commons, you can use a Guest Pass (if applicable), or an individual meal can be purchased at the door.

Change Your Meal Plan

You have the option to change your meal plans at the beginning of each semester through 4 p.m. on the last day to add a class each term.

The meal change period is now closed. Contact the Office of Residential Life at 715-682-1272 if you have any questions.

The Campus Store and 16th Street Sandwiches are both located on the first floor of the Ponzio Campus Center. You can get your Northland gear and grab a sandwich or snack.

Get Involved with our Food System

Here are some of the ways you can interact with our food system:

Join the student-initiated Northland chapter of the Food Recovery Network, collecting leftover food slated for the compost bin, packing it, and delivering it to a regional food bank.
Get a job with the garden crew managing the campus gardens—from planting, weeding, and caring for the seedlings to harvest and market.
Work with the Hulings Rice Food Center’s compost crew to gather food waste from the dining hall and around campus to take to our compost partner, where it turns to soil that can be used by local farmers and gardeners.
Help with packing out the garden harvest for students to enjoy on the trail during our Outdoor Orientation trips each August.
