In this talk, Emily Macgillivray will provide an overview of her book manuscript, which examines how the story of the eighteenth- and nineteenth-century borderland Great Lakes changes by simultaneously shifting our focus on gender from men to women and our focus on resources from the extraction of furs to the distribution of the common pot. In her manuscript, she analyzes the ways a group of Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe women engaged in a wide range of treaty-making practices in attempts to increase their prosperity and ensure the survival of the common pot while coping with the changes caused by increased Euro-American settlement.
This event is free and open the public.
