The My Northland Portal is optimized to as many browsers as possible. There are a few settings that may or may not be activated on your browser that affect the appearance and/or functionality of the site. If you are viewing the portal in Internet Explorer, please make sure your Compatibility Settings are configured correctly. First, go to "tools" and then click on "Configure Compatibility Settings". Make sure the middle check box below is unchecked.

Also, if you are on a newer version of Internet Explorer, you may click the blue icon next to the URL Address bar to fix compatibility settings automatically (See the image below). Portal users who have a "more" tab may need to click this blue icon to view the drop-down menu.

Here are some navigation tips to quickly get from place to place as you begin moving around within My Northland.
  • Clicking on a tab at the top of the page will always load the home page for that tab.
  • The home page for a tab will display a number of portlets in the main content area of the page.
  • The left column of a page will display: the name of the tab you are currently viewing the name of the page you are on, followed by a list of the portlets on the page a list of pages created under the tab any subsections that have been created under the tab. Subsections display a folder icon.
 
Quick Links defined by the authenticated user and the College. NOTE: Most items in the left column are links which will take you to a portlet or page. Click on the + to the left of My Pages to display a list of links there.
 
  • Click on the title of the portlet to display that portlet by itself on the page. The originating page name will appear at the top of the content area, as a link.
  • Click on this link to display all the portlets once more.
  • To return to the main page for a tab, click on the tab at the top of the page or the name of the tab at the top of the left column.
  • As you navigate through the content on a tab, you will create a You Are Here: "breadcrumb" in the bar just below the Home tab. This will display the path you have taken to your current location as a series of links, which you may click to return to any of the previous pages.
 
All pages have a "Print Friendly" link at the top right of the content area. Click on this to display just the information in the content area. Click on the "Send to Printer" button to print the content. Then click on the "Exit Print Mode" link next to this button to return to the full display of the page or portlet.
My Northland is a set of dynamic web pages that present information to a user based on their role within the College. The tabs across the top of the page are different for students, faculty, and visitors.  Each tab displays a selection of portlets with content pertinent to the user.
 
To Login:
 
Enter your username and password.
Click on the "Login" button.
 
To Logout:
 
It is important to log out when you are finished with your session.  Click on the word "Logout" in the top right corner of the page.
